Learning ‘outside’ the classroom
Dear parents,
We are pleased with the many opportunities Playford College offers our students to experience and learn many new things outside of the confines of the classroom. In recent times some of these activities have included:

  •  The Year 8 camp at Victor Harbor. Our students were a joy to spend three days with as they were cooperative, respectful, positive and brought a great attitude to every activity. Their reflections will be included in this newsletter but it was a pleasure to see them try boogie board surfing for the first time, be thrilled with a fast boat ride out to the islands to view dolphins and seals, ask so many excellent questions at the Whale Centre, feed kangaroos and pat koalas at Urumbirra Wildlife Park, display good sportsmanship while playing a soccer game against another school and getting on so well with the adults and fellow students.

  • The 2020 Sports Day. Our students arrived at the grounds ready for a top day and their attitude and sportsmanship on the day created a happy experience for fellow students, teachers, support staff and family members who were able to attend. Playford College is grateful to Ben Evans and Chris Caruana for organising, our staff for managing the program, the Munno Para Athletics Club for their assistance, the Lions Club of Playford and Elizabeth for cooking the barbeque and our cooperative and enthusiastic students.
  •  The Year 2 class excursion to the Tea Tree Gully Heritage Museum where students focussed on learning about life in earlier times.
Participation in inter-school sporting carnivals like the recent Year 8 basketball tournament.

    Middle School Electives

  • In the next few weeks student learning ‘outside of the classroom’ will include:
Swimming lessons. Growing up in Australia with the beach and local pools so readily available, children and young people need to learn to swim and be safe in the water.
Our annual Year 7 trip to Canberra. This tour which includes visits to Parliament House, the Australian War Memorial, the Royal Australian Mint, the Australian Museum, the home of the Governor General and so much more is a highlight of school life for every Australian student who can attend.
  • We are pleased that our teachers and support staff continue to plan and implement interesting learning ‘outside‘ of classroom life. Our students are very fortunate.

Blessings,
